“Around here friends are forever…”
It was a “dog” story/video on C.N.N. that drew tears to my eyes; just like Lassie did so many years ago. The commentator told of a dog named Spot, who loved her master A LOT. This much of the story was not remarkable or all that touching. However, as the story was told about how Spot’s master Wayne had been killed by a drunk driver and how Wayne’s son Paul was running the family’s lawn mower repair shop in Texas I began to listen intently. It seems that Spot would wait out by the main road and await her master Wayne’s return, each day, with a wagging tail. Since Wayne’s death Spot has continued to await the return of her master daily, only taking a break when Paul comes by to check on her. Paul states in the interview, “If you ever find anything like that (Spot) … that loves you that much …. It's the most precious gift in the world.” The video features clips of Spot waiting in tall grass and running along the road.. seeking her friend. The commentator closes the scene with the comment, “Around here friends are forever.” May each of us be a good friend to the other and especially to Christ our Lord, who we waited for through Advent and who we now follow to the cross and beyond. We are truly friends forever in the Arms of God! If dogs can be this faithful to their masters we should remain faithful to our Master, who doggedly pursues us with His Love.
